Ronald Acuña Jr. homered, drove in two runs, scored twice, and stole a base as Venezuela remained unbeaten with a 4-0 victory over Nicaragua on Monday night. Yoendrys Gómez struck out three in two scoreless innings to start the game, and Andrés Machado struck out the side in the ninth to end it as the Venezuelans prevailed despite getting only five hits, all from the top three hitters in the order.
Fernando Tatis Jr. drove in six runs with a grand slam and a single as the Dominicans hammered Israel 10-1 on Monday. Oneil Cruz also went deep for the Dominican Republic, and Brayan Bellow allowed only a solo home run in five innings of work, striking out seven. Israeli pitchers issued 11 walks and hit a batter while the bats mustered only two hits off five Dominican pitchers, who combined for 13 strikeouts.
The winner of Wednesday’s game plays Korea in a semifinal game at loanDepot park on Friday, while the loser faces Japan in Miami on Saturday.
