Previous Page Next PageHBO has released the first trailer for the third season of its hit drama Euphoria, leaving fans stunned by its drastic change.
Featuring Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer and Jacob Elordi, Sam Levinson’s show once again appears to be jam-packed with drugs, violence and sex.
Following on from the journey of the show’s characters in high school, the new season ventures into their lives as adults.
But, taking to Reddit, viewers have highlighted how the show actually seems to look ‘like a crime thriller’.
Praising how the show has aged along with the actor, Tyler-1991 said that the show looks ‘quite different, like they’re leaning into more of a drug related crime thriller or something’.
HearTheEkko also argued that the show has gone from ‘focusing on Rue’s substance abuse to full-on drug wars’, adding that ‘the trailer felt like a completely different show’.

Braumbles similarly said that the trailer was ‘quite the departure from what season 1 and 2 were about’ as oranguslolus added: ‘Honestly a lot more interesting than I thought it’d be, the shift in tone is much needed.’
The new trailer begins by showing Zendaya’s Rue in trouble with drug dealers, including a returning Martha Kelly.
Sweeney’s Cassie is then introduced as a cam girl making content online while married to Elordi’s Nate.
Finally, Schafer’s Jules is shown as becoming a sugar baby.
An official synopsis reads: ‘A group of childhood friends wrestle with the virtue of faith, the possibility of redemption, and the problem of evil.’
Other returning cast members include Alexa Demie, Chloe Cherry, Maude Apatow and two-time Oscar nominee Colman Domingo.
Newcomers include Sharon Stone, Rosalía, Natasha Lyonne, Danielle Deadwyler and Marshawn Lynch.

Oscar winner Hans Zimmer has also joined this season as composer.
Asked about the series, Levinson called it ‘our best season yet’, adding: ‘The one thing we all agreed on is we can’t go back to high school – although many, many shows have had 30-year-old high school students, we’re not.
‘Five years felt like a natural place [to jump] because if they had gone to college they’d be out of college at that time.’

This comes after Levinson’s second show for HBO, The Idol, faced intense backlash after being labelled as ‘torture porn’.
Meanwhile, Sweeney and Elordi will be following on from the success of their respective films, The Housemaid, and Frankenstein.
After her 2024 film The Challengers, Zendaya will also star in The Drama alongside Robert Pattinson and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey later this year.
Euphoria will premiere on April 12 on HBO.
